Digital Health and Systems Development Specialist
Description
Health Systems Trust (HST) is seeking to appoint a Digital Health and Systems Development Specialist to lead the design, customisation, and management of SharePoint and digital health systems. This position will focus on enhancing operational efficiency within HST and will initially be seconded to the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Health (KZN DoH) for six months to develop automated workflows for document approvals. The role will subsequently focus on in-house development of Information Technology (IT) systems, including a data lake, machine learning chatbots, and other digital tools, as well as SharePoint management for HST. This is a fixed-term contract position based in Durban, with renewal contingent on continued funding and performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Serve as the primary contact for the KZN DoH during the secondment, customising SharePoint workflows for document approvals. • Engage with HST project units to develop SharePoint pages, role-based access controls, and Teams integrations. • Automate approval workflows, document signing, and enhance collaboration tools for both internal and external stakeholders. • Design, develop, and maintain in-house IT systems (e.g. data lakes, chatbots) to improve organisational efficiency. • Ensure seamless integration of systems into existing infrastructure and provide ongoing technical support. • Conduct training programs for staff at HST and the KZN DoH on SharePoint and related digital tools. • Develop manuals and tutorials, and provide ongoing mentorship to ensure optimal use of digital solutions. • Monitor the financial aspects of IT system development and ensure cost-effective solutions within allocated budgets. • Manage software licences and evaluate third-party tools as necessary. • Submit regular reports on progress, challenges, and achievements.
Key Attributes
• Project management experience. • Excellent communication, analytical, and training skills. • Proficiency in Microsoft Power Automate, Power BI, and Teams integration. • Strong understanding of workflows, automation, and document management.

Degree
Qualification Required
• A Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field.
Experience Required
• A minimum of three to five years’ experience in SharePoint customisation and management. • Experience with software development and digital system implementation.
Remuneration
A salary package commensurate with the successful candidate’s experience and qualifications and in line with HST’s job grading system will be offered.
