TB FOCAL NURSE X 6
Description
Health Systems Trust (HST) wishes to appoint six (6) TB Focal Nurse for the National Department of Health Global Fund Tuberculosis (TB) Project in eThekwini district. The Professional Nurses will be responsible for co-ordinating TB programme activities within hospitals and down-referrals to Primary Health Care facilities to strengthen the continuity of care. This is a fixed-term contract position, renewable subject to availability of funding and performance.
Key Responsibilities
• Improve quality standards for recording and reporting of TB data in the hospital. • Register patients who are diagnosed with TB in the hospital. • Co-ordinate the down-referral of patients diagnosed in the hospital and follow up to confirm that they reached the clinic and that their close contacts are traced. • Supervise and monitor capturing of TB data in the information system by the Data Capturer. • Collate the data in the hospital’s TB Identification Register for reporting. • Co-ordinate TB activities in the hospital, in close collaboration with hospital management. • Compile quarterly reports for the Sub-recipient Programme Manager and District TB/HAST Manager. • Co-ordinate implementation of the ‘Finding cases Actively, Separating safely and Treating effectively’ (FAST) strategy and quality improvement activities in the hospital. • Work closely with Information Officers in the hospital. • Support in-hospital TB and HIV care, and infection prevention and control (IPC) activities. • Promote treatment provision for eligible patients with latent TB infection (LTBI). • Map these patients’ feeder clinics and create and maintain a related database. • Participate in district quarterly TB and data review meetings. • Co-ordinate TB-specific training, based on need.

Education Required
Matric
Qualification Required
• A Diploma in Nursing or a Bachelor's degree (B. Cur). • A qualification in Community Health Nursing or Primary Health Care will be an advantage. • Registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Professional Nurse.
Experience Required
• At least three years’ working experience in the public health care sector. • At least three years’ experience in clinical management of TB and HIV.
Remuneration
The salary package for this position based on Global Fund requirements is R414,407.60 to R659,174.15 as the Total Cost to Company.
